Coming Soon: Brain Cancer Science Talk Series
Leading brain cancer scientists and physicians discuss their state-of-the-art research with MissionGBM
MissionGBM readers had a very positive response to our recent “Investing in Brain Cancer” series (see Part 1, Part 2, Part 3a, Part 3b, Part 4 and Part 5), and they messaged us with a request: How about a “Brain Cancer Science” series?
You asked; we got to work.
In thinking about format, we decided to showcase each scientist and his/her work via a short (20-30min) video interview. Why?
Because these people are the “Best of the Best” in brain cancer research; they are dedicated scientists and clinicians who deserve recognition for their work and their humanity; and we thought you might like to see how the sausage actually gets made during the hundreds of MissionGBM and Team Julie video calls that have occurred over the past 2.5 years.
Besides, does anyone really want to read yet another journal paper at 3am? (Note: OK, we do…but let us do the work for you).
Individual interviews in the Series will be posted periodically over the next several weeks as we can work out the scheduling logistics for each person. The first tranche of interviews has now been confirmed, and will be posted beginning next week. Additional interviews will follow as they are conducted. Stay tuned.
The confirmed interviews so far (with more sessions still being scheduled):
Michael L. Dougan, MD, PhD (Massachusetts General Hospital; Harvard Medical School) – Understanding and Managing Immune-Related Adverse Events in Immuno-Oncology Protocols
David D. Tran, MD, PhD (Co-Director of the USC Brain Tumor Center; USC Keck School of Medicine) – Innovative, Evidence-Based Approaches for Treating Brain Cancer
Paul S. Mischel, MD (Fortinet Founders Professor and Professor, by courtesy, of Neurosurgery, Stanford University School of Medicine) – The Science of ecDNA and other Molecular Oncology Mechanisms Found in Brain Cancers
John de Groot, MD (Division Chief of Neuro-Oncology, UCSF) – Immunotherapy, Combination Protocols, Focused Ultrasound and Emerging Technologies for Treating Brain Tumors with Some Thoughts About Improvements to Clinical Trial Design and Regulatory Affairs
Graeme Woodworth, MD (Chair of Neurosurgery; Director of the Brain Tumor Center, University of Maryland) – Neurosurgical Techniques to Treat Brain Cancers and Enhance Transport of Therapeutic Agents Across the Blood Brain Barrier
Samuel Blackman, MD, PhD (Co-Founder and Head of Research, Day One Biopharmaceuticals) – Selected Topics in Pediatric Brain Cancer R&D
Mike Lim, MD (Chair of Neurosurgery, Stanford University School of Medicine) - Opportunities and Challenges in Immunotherapy for Brain Tumors
Kirk Tanner, PhD (Chief Scientific Officer, National Brain Tumor Society) – Promising New Science-Based Approaches for Treating Brain Tumors
We try not to get excited too often, but we have to say that there is palpable energy within MissionGBM and the interviewees regarding the upcoming Brain Cancer Science Talk series. Besides, you have undoubtedly heard the old joke: Two scientists walk into a bar…
